STILL A FAMILY FARM

Monson Brothers is a thriving farm management business built on the sweat equity of our forefathers. In 1889, our great, great grandfather started farming in the Green Hollow area. And we’ve been family farmers ever since. In 1978, our parents started their farm on leased property near Dusty, Washington.

The Monson brothers, Kent and Jason, formed their partnership for farm management in 2003 and were first entrusted with leased acreage from our grandfather Bill Willson. Since that day, we have served clients throughout eastern Washington in every grain farming capacity. We love farming and we’re committed to excellence. As we like to say, “Dirt is our destiny, because farming is our calling.”

MEET THE BROTHERS

With degrees in both business and crop science, Kent Monson is in charge of Farm Operations and our relationship manager. Jason earned degrees in business and economics and serves as in a business development and finance capacity. But make no mistake about it, we both roll up our sleeves and get dirty along with our team members. We have another brother, Grant (a Certified Financial Planner) running a business in Seattle, who offers us financial planning and business consulting for the farm operation. We occasionally also let him lend a hand when he needs a “vacation” from his Bellevue office. Jason and Kent believe in continually learning new skills and increasing their knowledge of the rapidly changing agriculture industry. Both Jason and Kent are recent graduates of the The Executive Program for Agriculture Producers (TEPAP).

In addition, Diane and Gary (who we prefer to call “mom and dad”) are also valuable business mentors and life coaches. Now in his 70’s, dad can still out-work us on occasion, as well. Kent’s daughter Cadence and his son Garin pitch in too. Garin loves anything with a motor, and Cadence is a young horse woman who can be seen operating one of our grain carts during harvest.

OUR MISSION

We can sum up our mission for farmland management in three words: “Respect the land.” We remind ourselves during every harvest, when you tend the land properly it repays you ten-fold with gratitude.

For business purposes, our mission statement is: “Monson Brothers grows premium crops for our landholders with prudent financial, agricultural and environmental stewardship.” But what that means to us is simply this: “be responsible stewards.” Because we’re responsible for land held by others and the grain if produces, we believe it’s our duty to reward their trust by nurturing the land as if it were our own. As a family farm, we have a real passion for what we do – we like to say it’s “in grained”. And, when you love what you do, quality comes naturally.

“Farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil and you’re a thousand miles from the field.”
—Dwight D. Eisenhower
